Modernizing a Scottsdale Ranch House While Preserving Mid-Century Character

Design Vision

The Sheridan project focused on revitalizing an original mid-century ranch while preserving key architectural elements that define the character of the home.

Rather than replacing everything, the renovation carefully balanced restoration with modernization. Several original features were retained, including the kitchen cabinetry, built-in oven, and many of the interior doors. These details help preserve the authenticity of the house while new materials and finishes bring the home up to modern standards.

The design also emphasized stronger connections to the outdoor environment through new glazing and expanded outdoor living areas.

Renovation & Addition

The project included a full renovation of the existing structure along with the addition of a new primary suite.

The floor plan was modified to improve the flow between living spaces while creating a more functional layout for contemporary living. The new primary suite expands the home’s livable space and provides a more private and comfortable retreat within the house.

Large sections of floor-to-ceiling glass were introduced to increase natural light and strengthen the relationship between the interior spaces and the backyard.

Infrastructure & Systems Upgrades

The home underwent major infrastructure improvements as part of the renovation.

Updates included a new electrical panel, updated wiring, all new plumbing, and the addition of a fire sprinkler system. These upgrades bring the home to modern safety and performance standards while supporting the updated layout and expanded square footage.

Interior finishes throughout the home were replaced while carefully integrating the preserved original features.

Outdoor Living

Outdoor living became a central part of the project.

A large swimming pool and expansive patio were introduced to create an outdoor environment suited for entertaining and everyday use. The front yard desert landscape was also updated to complement the architecture of the home and reinforce the clean lines typical of mid-century design.

The Result

The completed Sheridan project transforms the original ranch house into a modernized mid-century residence.

By preserving select original details while introducing new glass, expanded living space, and updated infrastructure, the home maintains its architectural character while offering the comfort and functionality expected in a contemporary renovation.

A careful balance of restoration and modernization, preserving the home's mid-century character while improving how it lives today
