Location: Phoenix, Arizona Year Built: 1966
The Property
This mid-century home in North Central Phoenix had strong architectural bones but had been constrained by a dated layout and limited living space. The original footprint lacked the openness and functionality expected in modern homes, and several areas of the house felt disconnected from one another.
While the property sat in a desirable neighborhood, the existing configuration did not fully take advantage of the lot or support contemporary indoor-outdoor living.
Design Vision
The goal of the project was to expand the home while maintaining the scale and character of the original architecture. The renovation focused on creating a more open and livable floor plan while introducing additional square footage in a way that feels natural to the structure.
The design approach emphasized clean lines, simple material palettes, and stronger connections between interior living areas and the outdoor environment.
Renovation & Addition
The project included both a full interior renovation and a thoughtfully integrated addition to expand the living space.
Interior walls were reconfigured to create a more open layout that allows the kitchen, dining, and living areas to function as a cohesive central gathering space. The kitchen was redesigned with updated cabinetry, modern appliances, and improved workflow suited for everyday living and entertaining.
Bathrooms were fully renovated with contemporary finishes while maintaining a restrained aesthetic appropriate for a mid-century home.
The addition expanded the home’s square footage and improved the overall balance of the floor plan, creating more functional living space without overwhelming the original structure.
Exterior updates and improved outdoor areas further strengthened the connection between the house and the surrounding property.
The Result
The completed renovation transforms the home into a more functional and cohesive living environment while respecting the scale and simplicity of the original architecture.
The expanded layout, updated interiors, and improved outdoor connection allow the house to live like a modern home while maintaining its mid-century character.
