E.T. Wright Orange Drive Restoration | Phoenix

Location: Phoenix, Arizona Year Built: 1968 Architect: E.T. Wright

The Property

Located at the base of Camelback Mountain, this home was originally the personal residence of architect E.T. Wright. The property retains many of the original architectural elements that define Wright’s work, but over time portions of the interior had been altered with materials that did not match the character of the home.

The goal of the project was not to dramatically change the house, but to restore and refine the interior while respecting the architectural language of the original design.

Design Approach

Rather than a full redesign, the focus of the project was a careful restoration that would elevate the quality of the interiors while maintaining the presence of the original home.

Materials and finishes were selected to complement the existing architecture and preserve the mid-century character of the property.

Interior Restoration

The renovation began with the removal of outdated flooring throughout the home, including carpet and tile that had been installed during previous updates.

New tile flooring was installed to create a cleaner and more cohesive foundation for the interiors.

Three bathrooms were carefully restored using period-appropriate tile selections, allowing the spaces to feel consistent with the original architecture while improving their overall condition and functionality.

The result was a refreshed interior that brings the home back into alignment with the design sensibilities of the original structure.

The Result

Rather than altering the architecture, the renovation focused on polishing and restoring the home so it could continue to reflect the vision of its original designer.

The updated materials and restored bathrooms allow the property to maintain its historic character while meeting modern standards of quality.
