77th Renovation & Addition I Scottsdale

Location: Scottsdale, Arizona     Year Built: 1956

Design Vision

The 77th Street project focused on transforming an original mid-century ranch into a larger, modernized residence while maintaining the simplicity of the original architecture.

The renovation introduced a modern material palette and updated finishes while preserving the horizontal lines and proportions typical of mid-century ranch homes. The goal was to expand the livable space and bring the house up to contemporary standards without losing the architectural clarity of the original structure.

Outdoor living was also emphasized, with new landscaping and a swimming pool designed to extend the home’s usable space beyond the interior.

Renovation & Addition

The project included a full renovation of the existing home along with a 898 square foot addition located between the primary suite and kitchen.

This addition allowed both areas of the home to expand, improving circulation and creating more functional living spaces. The increased square footage helped balance the layout and gave the home a stronger connection between the kitchen, living areas, and private bedroom spaces.

The expansion also helped modernize the overall scale of the house while maintaining the character of the original ranch structure.

Infrastructure & Systems Upgrades

As part of the renovation, the home underwent major infrastructure improvements.

Updates included a new electrical panel, all new plumbing, underground utilities, a new roof, and upgraded insulation. A fire sprinkler system was also added to improve safety and bring the house to modern building standards.

Interior finishes throughout the home were completely replaced, including flooring, paint, cabinetry, and fixtures.

Outdoor Living & Landscape

The exterior of the property was redesigned to complement the updated architecture.

A new swimming pool anchors the backyard and creates an outdoor environment designed for entertaining and everyday desert living. The landscaping was also completely reimagined to provide structure and greenery around the property while maintaining a clean desert aesthetic.

Recognition

The completed renovation was selected to be featured on the Scottsdale Modern Home Tour in Fall 2018, highlighting the project’s successful balance between modern design and mid-century architecture.

The Result

The 77th Street renovation and addition transforms the original mid-century ranch into a modernized residence with expanded living spaces and updated infrastructure.

The new addition, modern finishes, and redesigned outdoor environment create a home that respects its mid-century roots while supporting contemporary living.
