Design Vision
The 6th Street project focused on restoring and expanding a mid-century ranch while preserving the architectural elements that give the home its character.
Several original features were intentionally retained, including the kitchen cabinetry and decorative breeze block. These details help maintain the authenticity of the home while the renovation introduces modern materials, improved systems, and a more functional floor plan.
The design also emphasized light and openness through the addition of large glass panels and expanded living spaces.
Renovation & Addition
The project included a full renovation of the existing structure along with a new primary suite addition.
Interior spaces were reconfigured to improve circulation and better connect the living areas. The living room was expanded and the ceiling height increased, creating a larger and more open central gathering space within the home.
Large sections of floor-to-ceiling glass were added to strengthen the connection between the interior and the outdoor environment while allowing natural light to fill the main living areas.
A double carport was also incorporated into the redesign to improve functionality and provide covered parking while maintaining the architectural scale of the original home.
Infrastructure & Systems Upgrades
The renovation included a complete upgrade of the home’s infrastructure.
Updates included new electrical service, all new plumbing, foam insulation, and a new roof. These improvements bring the house to modern performance standards while supporting the updated layout and expanded square footage.
Interior finishes throughout the home were replaced while carefully integrating the preserved original architectural elements.
Landscape & Site Improvements
The exterior of the property was also reimagined as part of the renovation.
New desert landscaping was installed throughout the property while preserving three large established trees that anchor the site. An eight-foot block wall along the alley was added to increase privacy and create a more defined backyard environment.
These improvements help frame the architecture and create outdoor spaces that complement the mid-century character of the home.
The Result
The completed project transforms the original ranch house into a modernized mid-century residence.
By preserving key architectural features while introducing expanded living space, floor-to-ceiling glass, and updated infrastructure, the home maintains its original character while offering the comfort and functionality expected in a contemporary renovation.
