The Tempe Municipal Building which is home to Tempe City Hall was completed in 1971. Architects Michael Goodwin and Kemper Goodwin designed the upside down pyramid in 1966, but construction did not begin until 1969.
The inverted pyramid design helps keep the building cool in summer and warm in winter. The floors vary in size due to the design from just over 2,000 sqft to over 10,000 sqft.
The building sits among large trees just east of Mill Ave and S of E 5th St in downtown Tempe.
